Key Objectives
To preserve the memory of the settlement of Poles in Australia through the activities of collecting primary source materials from prominent Poles and nationally oriented Polish organisations. To find and locate in appropriate public repositories these documents where access for the purpose of research is available. To provide information about the history of Polish settlement in Australia in print, electronic or other forms. Activities The Institute deposits primary source materials to the Manuscript Section, National Library of Australia. This collection is known as the Records of the Polish Historical Institute in Australia (MS 9562) covering the period from 1947 to the present. The collection comprises records of Polish organisations and papers of some Polish immigrants, including correspondence, minutes of meetings, newsletters, and scrapbooks. Major holdings include: Polish Ex-Servicemen's Association, Federation of Polish Organisations in Australia, and Polish Community Information Bureau. The Institute has provided two series of oral histories for the National Library of Australia. 1. Polish-Australians oral history project (1996- ) 2.
